For three hours I had entrenched myself on a rock facing the fort of Jaisalmer. I wanted to watch the declining sun-light on the fort and take some snaps, if possible. Then these four young lasses came, passed me and planted themselves around 40 feet from me—watching just watching. I marveled at the splendor of their kinship. They were the off-springs of the softness of the filtering sun-light. They came from the small shanties down below built on the roadside. Some of those house-holders built puppets for their living. Such gentle evenings are possible for mankind, I wondered. These kids seemed to enjoy every sniff of the air, every whiff of the withering light. Gentleness and tenderness was in the evening. Gentleness and tenderness was in their faces. Their body language, their way of sitting, their small talks, smiles and even silence just suggested that they had nothing to worry about. No pomp. No Show. Such can be the boon of the evening light of the sun. I again wondered how some of the evenings of life can be so good. Perhaps it is possible only in childhood. No money can purchase these evenings. No luxurious offerings of the grand packages of tours of luxury liners, of honeymoon trips can yield such innocent, innate, pure but simple pleasure that I found on the faces of these girls, in their small talks and silent gazings. When I considered how difficult it was for their families to earn everyday living, my marvel for the bounties of nature, of the withering rays of the evening sun increased. |
